You are now ready to start using the Envision App, which has been optimised with accessibility options in mind. On iOS you can enable Dynamic Type to expand the buttons or use VoiceOver.
On Android, the buttons will also be expanded and can be used with dedicated screen readers such as TalkBack.
Envision's App Onboarding includes the following:
One-Time Screens
Once you download the Envision App, it will automatically launch with Onboarding to make sure we get you up and running with each of our features.
Welcome to Envision Screen
First, you will be presented with a screen that displays a brief explanation of Envision's features that are designed to help you fully understand the visual world around you. Once you have read them, you can tap the Continue button to log in via Google, Email, Apple ID or Facebook.
Help Us Improve Screen
Once you are logged in, you will be prompted for permission to access your camera, as most of Envision's features require your camera. In addition, a screen will appear requesting your consent to sharing the data. Your data helps us to improve our algorithms and therefore the results and performance of the app.
A New Reading Experience Screen
We improved the reading experience. Now we will speak anything faster than before while keeping the same accuracy. For this new reading experience, we only need to know what language you'd like to read mainly.
You will be prompted to select your preferred language, you can tap on Continue and a new confirmation screen will be displayed with the language you have selected. To finalise this configuration, you can tap on Start Envisioning.
Features
Every time you open a feature for the first time, a screen will appear. This screen contains information about the feature you are about to access, for instance, how it works and how to access it.
Read Tab
When the Read tab is selected, the screen presents three main buttons at the top: the Magnifier, the Reading Language and the Read Preferences. The Magnifier functions as a zoom for the camera so that you can look closer at things that are far away or text that may be too small to read. The Reading Language and Read Preferences are available for both the Instant Text and Scan Text features.
As mentioned before, the Read Tab consists of three features: Instant Text, Scan Text and Library. The first feature on the bottom left, above the categories tab, is Instant text. This allows you to instantly read any text in front of you. For more information about this feature, see Instant Text.
The second feature of the Read tab, located at the bottom centre, above the categories tab, is Scan Text. This feature is used to read long texts. When you take a picture of the document, it opens in a Reader, where you can scroll through the text itself. Scan Text has two possible modes:
- Single for scanning one piece of text or document.
- Batch for scanning several pieces of text or documents.
By default, Single is selected, however, you can simply tap the Batch button to change it. For more information on this feature, see Scan Text.
When using Scan Text, the Reader will open for you to scroll through the document. When used for the first time, the app will prompt you for your preference as to whether to activate the Auto-play feature.
The last feature of the Read tab is the Library. It is located at the bottom right of the screen, above the categories tab. When you download the app, the library will be empty. You will find a button to Import Files and this is also where you will find all your documents once you save them. You will find another button at the top right called Import to Library, which can be used when you want to import files saved on your smartphone to the Envision Library. Older files will appear first and will be saved below the older ones. For more information on this feature, see Library.
Identify Tab
When the Read tab is selected, the screen presents three main buttons at the bottom above the categories tab: Describe Scene, Detect Colors and Scan Barcode.
The first feature of the Identify tab is Describe Scene. It is located at the bottom left above the categories tab and describes what you see in front of you, allowing you to get an idea of the environment around you. For more information on this feature, see Describe Scene.
The second feature of the Identify tab is Detect Colors. It is located at the bottom centre, above the categories tab, and identifies the colours of the things around you. For more information on this feature, see Detect Colors.
The last feature of the Identify tab is Scan Barcode. It is located at the bottom right of the screen, above the categories tab, and allows you to find out more about a product by scanning its barcode. Even if sometimes the barcode is not found, you can tap on More information, which will redirect you to the browser where some searches related to the product will be displayed. For more information on this feature, see Scan Barcode.
Find Tab
When the Read tab is selected, the screen presents three main buttons at the bottom, above the categories tab: Find People, Find Objects and Teach Envision.
When using Find People or Find Objects for best results, it is best to move the phone slowly, to allow the app to correctly process the information received by the camera.
The first feature of the Find tab is Find People. It is located at the bottom left, above the categories tab and detects if there are people around you or finds a specific person. For more information on this function, see Find People
The second feature on the Find tab is Find Objects. It is located at the bottom centre, above the categories tab, and finds and locates specific objects in your environment. For more information on this feature, see Find Objects
The last feature of the Find tab is Teach Envision. It is located at the bottom right of the screen, above the categories tab. With this feature, you can teach a friend's face to speak out their name when using the Find People and Describe Scene features. For more information on this feature, see Teach Envision
