Why is lighting so important when using Ally Solos Glasses?
Good lighting is essential because the glasses use the same visual principles as a standard camera. Ally needs enough light to clearly capture what the camera sees. Poor lighting directly affects scene descriptions, reading accuracy, and product identification.
What type of lighting works best for Ally Solos Glasses?
The best lighting is diffused, soft lighting, such as fluorescent or evenly distributed indoor lighting.
Avoid harsh shadows or bright light shining directly into the camera.
Make sure the light is above you or behind you, not shining toward the front of the glasses. Light coming from in front of you will reduce visibility and accuracy.
Where is the camera located on the Ally Solos Glasses?
The camera is located in the left temple arm and has an 80-degree landscape lens. This means head positioning is key to getting the right angle.
How should I position my head when describing a scene or person?
Point your head—and therefore the camera—roughly toward the subject. If you want Ally to describe something, make sure you are facing it directly.
How should I position products or documents for identification or reading?
Hold the item in front of your left eye, about 18 inches away. Align the center of the document or object with the line of your nose so it is not too high or too low.
Do I need to worry about the orientation of the document, upside down or sideways?
No. Ally can read text regardless of whether the document is right-side up, upside down, or sideways.
What about very small text?
Hold smaller text closer to the camera to help Ally capture the details clearly. Adjust the distance until Ally reads accurately.
The playback of Scan Text has started. Can I interrupt it?
Yes. You can interrupt playback at any time by performing a tap-and-hold on the touch bar. This allows you to stop reading or ask a question.
What is the best way to use ScanText on longer documents?
The best approach is to interrupt playback and say: Summarize document
You can then ask follow-up questions or request more detail. Can I continue asking questions about the document after the summary?
Yes. After Ally responds, you can keep asking more questions about the document or choose to stop playback with a tap-and-hold.
Does Scan Text have difficulty identifying numbers?
Number accuracy has improved, but some issues remain. For example, certain builds may misread the U.S. dollar sign as the number five. This is a known limitation being continually improved.
Why does Ally sometimes miss the first word of my voice command?
Due to Bluetooth audio delay, walkie-talkie mode requires a short pause. If you speak immediately, the first word can be cut off.
How long should I wait before giving a command in walkie-talkie mode?
Wait one to two seconds after activating walkie-talkie mode before speaking. This ensures your full command is captured.
- Why is the delay most noticeable when trying to stop playback?
Because many users rush to stop the audio, they speak before Bluetooth activates. A brief pause solves this: tap and hold, wait one second, then say: Stop Playback
