Finding and using the power button to turn your Ally Solos Glasses on and off
We’ve updated our terminology—what used to be called the power button is now the power bump. You’ll find it as a small, round bump on the outside of the right arm, just before the touchpad.
To turn your Ally Solos Glasses on, lightly tap and hold the power bump until you hear a short beep, followed by: 'Power High' or 'Power Good'.
If you don’t hear the beep:
- Make sure both arms (stems) are locked firmly into the frame. If one arm isn’t fully connected, your Ally Solos Glasses won’t power on or charge.
- Make sure your Ally Solos Glasses are charged.
- The Ally Solos Glasses will automatically power off after 3 minutes, and if you lay them down with the arms lying on a flat surface.
Here’s a video demonstrating how to turn your Ally Solos Glasses on or off.
Charging the Ally Solos Glasses
There are two ways to charge your Ally Solos Glasses:
- Recommended: Use the magnetic charging cable included in the box—it connects, with a soft click, to a metal connector on the underside of the left arm just next to where the stem connects with the frame. The Charging LED on the left temple shows red during charging and blue color after fully charged.
- Not recommended for new users: Remove the arms and charge each one via USB-C.
Note: The Ally Solos Glasses will automatically power off when charging. Also, there is no sound indicator when charging. If unsure, leave it connected for an hour, then press the power bump—if you hear 'Power High,' you’re fully charged.

Battery, Standby Mode, and Auto Power-Off
Because of their modular design, the Ally Solos Glasses do not enter standby mode simply by folding the arms. Instead, they automatically power off after three minutes of inactivity, ensuring the battery is protected without you needing to take any action.
There is no sound indicator while the Ally Solos Glasses are charging. If you ever feel unsure, simply leave the Ally Solos Glasses connected for about one hour and then press the power bump. If you hear 'Power High' your device is fully charged and ready to go.
Once the Ally Solos Glasses have auto-powered off, a single light tap on the power bump will turn them back on instantly, accompanied by a short beep.
Charging Times and Battery Life
Here are a few key points to help you get the most out of your battery:
- Full charge: Approximately 1.5 hours
- Quick charge: A 15-minute charge provides around 3 hours of use
- Full-day use: Up to 15 hours of battery life on a complete charge
This means most people experience true all-day use without interruptions.
No Risk of Unexpected Battery Drain
You never need to worry about accidentally leaving the Ally Solos Glasses on. If you forget to turn them off, they will automatically power down after a few minutes of inactivity. This protects your battery and ensures it’s ready when you need it.

Hands-free use and when the phone is needed
Unlike the Envision Glasses, the Ally Solos Glasses do not have on-device processing. They work together with the Ally app on your smartphone via Bluetooth—similar to how a Bluetooth headset functions—using the built-in camera and speakers to interpret your surroundings and speak information back to you.
The good news is that you only need to open the Ally app when starting a new conversation or session with Ally.
Once you have started a conversation, do not close the Ally app. Leave it running, lock your phone screen, and continue with your day. Ally will keep running in the background and will be ready whenever you want to chat.
When you finish your conversation with Ally and want to start a new one, you will need to reopen the Ally app on your phone. Below we are sharing the steps again:
- You only need to open the Ally app when starting a new conversation or pairing your Ally Solos Glasses.
- Once you’ve started a conversation, do not close the Ally app, leave it running while you close your phone screen and carry on. Ally keeps running in the background and is there for when you want to chat.
- Once you have ended your conversation with Ally and you want to start another, you will need to reopen the Ally app on your phone.

Response Time and Performance
Currently, Ally takes about 3-4 seconds to capture an image. It then takes approximately 3-4 seconds to transfer the image by Bluetooth to your telephone and to respond.
You can speed things up by:
- Ask Ally to be succinct in describing the image and responding to your questions. You can do this when you ask the question or in the Ally personalisation option in Preferences.
-
Lowering the image resolution. You can do this by doing the following in the Ally app.
- Go into Settings.
- Select Connections.
- Select Ally Solos Glasses.
- Go to Advanced Features.
- Select Camera Resolution: The higher the resolution, the longer the response time: 1024 x 768 is recommended.
- Save your changes.
A couple of points to keep in mind: On-phone processing helps your glasses maintain an all-day battery life of up to 14 hours.
Touchpad Sensitivity
If your touchpad feels too sensitive or triggers Siri accidentally:
- Open the Ally app, go to Preferences, then select Ally Solos Glasses, choose the Advanced Features option and select Touch Sensitivity.
- Move the slider right for firmer taps, or left for lighter taps.
Other ways to use your Ally Solos Glasses
Your Ally Solos Glasses also function like a Bluetooth headset, allowing you to do more with them in addition to using Ally. You can make phone calls, play music, and use your phone’s voice assistant hands-free.
Phone Calls
Making Calls
- You can make phone calls from your Ally Solos Glasses by first ending your conversation with Ally. Once Ally stops speaking, use your index finger to gently tap the touch target located on the bridge of the nose of the glasses. This is the small area at the front of the frame, right above the nose pads. Tapping this spot wakes Siri for iPhone users or Google Assistant for Android users. After it wakes, you can simply say who you want to call.
Accepting Calls
- Slide your finger along the touchpad towards your right ear to accept an incoming call.
- To accept a second call, press and hold the power bump on the right temple for 1 second.
Ending Calls
- Press and hold the power bump on the right temple for 1 second to end a call.
Declining Calls
- Slide your finger on the touchpad in the opposite direction — away from your ear — to decline a call.
Music
Play Music
- To play music, end your conversation with Ally and then single-tap the frame.
Pause Music
- To pause music, single-tap the frame again.
Change Tracks
- To play the next track, double-tap the touchpad on the right temple. To play the previous track, triple-tap the touchpad on the right temple.
